My book review of “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child | Part One and Part Two” written by J.K. Rowling, John Tiffany and Jack Thorne
In my view…
This story is about the life of Harry Potter and his friends, 19 years after he has defeated Voldemort and escaped death. This part starts where the film of the seventh sequel ended. London’s King Cross train station. A lot of things happen in this sequel and definitely clears up a few questions you could have had after reading the first seven books. This book is also genius written in a psychological way. There is more dialogue and you get a better view of the thoughts of the different characters. You get the feeling you get to know them better. Even after seven Harry Potter books, this one can not be ignored. This book answers some questions you probably had and some questions you probably never wandered about.

I have read the Dutch version, which is translated from English by Wiebe Buddingh’, and I really love the style of writing. It is a script form because it is a play, a theater production. But you recognise the same style in this 8th Harry Potter sequel as the previous sequels of Harry Potter which I have read in Dutch as well. I have read the first Harry Potter in English too and the second a bit in German. What is different mostly are the names of the characters. The names of the friends of Harry Potter, the teachers, the families, the enemies and so on. But this is not disturbing because it all fits well together for the Dutch version at least! So a really good translation job from Wiebe Buddingh’ throughout all the Harry Potter sequels in Dutch. I have read the book within three days and I like the pace of the story.
This part is the hardest part to tell. Because Harry Potter, Ginny Potter (Weasley), Ron Weasley, Hermione Weasley (Granger) and Draco Malfoy are all back in this sequel. 19 Years later and a lot is going on. People come and go in the life of Harry Potter, people stay close or are torn apart of him. All this that we are used to that happens in the previous seven sequels, happens in this sequel too! Not exactly of course, but you recognise the flow of the book. You remember the previous sequels and their stories, you imagine the characters how they were and for some how they are now 19 years later. Even some plot twists of the other books are mentioned. How did J.K. Rowling think about writing it in such a genius way? Brilliant!
I hope you like the book too. It is worth to read it! I am not telling about the story too much– never do in my book reviews – you have to read the book yourself and make your own opinion.
Have you seen the theater play of this Harry Potter sequel?
My book review of “Advent” written by Gunnar Gunnarsson
In my view… and the main characters
The story is about a good shepherd who, every year in the few autumn weeks and winter days before Christmas, goes up on the mountains. This shepherd named Benedikt does not travel alone. Together with his dog Leo and his buck Knoest he sets off to the smaller roads and paths that lead to the top of the mountain.
Every year herds of sheep are living on the mountain from spring until the end of autumn. Every shepherd has to look for his herd and bring them safe home in the valley before winter starts and it will be nearly too late to travel on the mountain to get home with the sheep.
Benedikt does not have his own herd of sheep. But together with Leo and Knoest he tries to bring every sheep safe back home. He helps the other farmers and shepherds who in fact too late. That something like this happens makes it a very dangerous expedition for Benedikt and his friends. Leo has as a dog a keen sense of smell and can locate the sheep way earlier than the eyes of Benedikt in a winter storm can see. Knoest has also his specialty. When a sheep is stubborn, Knoest knows how to deal with it so the sheep does follow the shepherd Benedikt who leads them all … hopefully … back home.

This book is translated from Danish though Gunnar Gunnarsson is Icelandic. I did not discover any grammar or spelling mistakes in the Dutch version but I can not read Danish nor Icelandic.
I hope you like the book too. It is worth to read this short story! You have to read the book yourself and make your own opinion.
Two years ago, in the early days of March, I started with this blog. I love reading and writing since I can read and write. Being creative with poems about animals, people or just things that happen during a normal day. Writing little stories with those poems and writing little stories in diaries. Now and then I thought about writing a book. I specified all the characters to start with, wrote the first half chapter and then…probably…my inspiration was gone or I was distracted in so many other things that can inspire you when you are a teenager. I was back then.
Before this blog I had as a young little girl my own “magazine” written in Word, I think this was during my Elementary School years. During my junior High School years, I had some designed ‘pet pages’ on Neopets and my own ‘Kindertent’ website with a fan page of ‘Harry Potter’ – somewhere until around 2006. And after a few years I started with my own Blogger.com website. This was somewhere during the summer holiday after graduating in 2011. Sadly I have deleted this blog, well I have transferred it to another version I made on Blogger and so on. Two blogs on Blogger and even a Google Sites blog – to have more creative possibilities – later and a little break….and it was March 2015.
During 2014 I was experiencing a bit with WordPress because this was the biggest ‘other blogging option’ left after my previous – not satisfying enough – tries. It took a couple of days before I was satisfied with the layout and thought I had all opportunities maximized in use. And back then when I just entered my early twenties…I started this blog! Two years later I am still in my early twenties though haha.
And maybe you have noticed for this anniversary: an own domain name and a new layout! 🙂 Read on for the whole story about my blogging experience.
I started back then with the ‘Twenty Fourteen’ theme and this header above.
Later on I changed the header into a more photographic one with a butterfly. I love the blue colour of the butterfly and the green differences in the background, not just one color but a bit lively.
During the summer of 2015 when I started with my Facebook Page: Sophie’s Blog, I thought about making my own featured images in a header style to show the category of a blog post. This way every post from then on has a featured image with information that shows to which category the blog post belongs. This is still my method only the header – and therefore also all those featured images by category – has changed.
Simple and minimal became the new thing. Not to bright, to colourful or a bit sloppy. I started experiencing with a black and white header and attached through Photoshop symmetric two flowers bound by a line that marked my blog title and subtitle. Yes, I called my blog ‘Sophie’s Web’ because it was me writing on the web and experiencing what to do with it. Will it become a blog with one single subject? Will it become a personal website?
New layout and an own domain
Here we are! Anno 2017 at the blog anniversary. A new layout and a new own domain! Welcome to the .blog world!
It became a mixture: A blog with all my personal interests. Not a completely single subject – or three what you see often too – blog. Not a specific book blog, film blog, series blog, IT blog, Lifestyle blog, cooking blog, recipes, gadgets and so on….
This became my combination of everything I am interested in and the subtitle of my previous header was already present in my subconscious – only doubting how it all would result.
The way it is nowadays, designed by myself in simply black and white and a touch of a curly blue sign, I feel most content with. I did some research on signs and if some were religious or had other meanings. This one does not have a particular meaning as far as I discovered. But every time when I see it, I see a bit of a music key in it. For example a twisted simplified G-clef. And I love the font too. It has also its little semi curly effects by thick and thin and straight and italic combined. Took a while before I found a font I was satisfied with.
Maybe I seem a bit picky in every aspect that has to do with my blog – such as menus, social buttons, widgets, fonts, headers, colors, sizes and so on… .
Even after two years, I won’t switch to something else than WordPress. I won’t change my whole personal website and blog.
This is who I am as a blogger, and blogging and reading and broaden my knowledge is what I like to do. Together with writing and telling – ya, people who know me personally know I can talk now and then a lot – stories about everything exciting and positive I experience. In such a broad interest because I love many sorts of things in life and I appreciate every big and every small little thing. Do things that let you smile or just enjoy.
I hope I’ll be for someone an inspiration to do joyful things in life. Enjoy the little things as well such as watching a film, reading a book or just watching an episode of a series. Or appreciating a nice photograph or quote or a nice supporting comment. Appreciate it when someone gives you advice, you can probably learn from it. Stay always true to yourself. My blog let’s me smile for already just being there, the space where I can write stuff, gather all my interests an where I can be creative now and then.
I just keep on enjoying the joyful things in life and writing about it.
Thank you for reading this long – personal blogging – story!
“When everything is lost, how do you find your way back?”
Will Smith is known for his acting in already 34 productions varied from films, such as ‘I Am Legend (2007)‘ , to a television episode in ‘The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air (1990-1996)’. He is also known for his producer skills in 22 productions such like ‘Annie (2014)’ , ‘The Karate Kid (2010)’, ‘Hancock (2008)’. Did you know that? In september is announced that there will be a ‘Hancock 2′ but the date nor status of production is yet unknown.
A few weeks ago the film ‘Collateral Beauty‘ had its première and the story is touching and a bit thrilling in the drama.
Howard is a man who has lost his little daughter and he does not care anymore if he loses anything or anyone else. But he starts to write letters. To whom? That is unknown but he writes to ‘what’. To love, to time and to death. Or are they ‘who’s’ in his mind, in his recovery. He writes because he needs it without completely knowing it. The collateral beauty, the profound connection to everything. If he accepts the fate, he can make something beautiful out of life again. “Challenge them, just to engage!”

My book review of “Martin Misunderstood” written by
In my view…
This story is about Martin Reed, a middle-aged man, still living at home with his mother and working for a cleaning company as accountant. He has a normal life that goes on and on in a simple way. The book is written in a such a way that it seems like you are just reading a novel about a man in his daily life. Suddenly events took place – not really written – and Martin gets accused of murder. At this point, nearly halfway the book, this book becomes a thriller story. I thought I would like the book but more and more towards the end I became less and less fond of it. I would have rated it with 1 star / 5 stars, when the story was not that genius. In the end the story is not solved, or solved in a bad sad way. Depends on how you see it, but I dislike it this way. The main character is genius written, that’s the positive thing.
Writing style / spelling
The pace of the story starts slow and halfway it speeds up. I have not found any grammar or spelling mistakes but some sentences were doubtful. The style of how this book is written, is not really suited for me. In my opinion it is even a psychological thriller and not just a thriller, nor a mystery crime because it is not really about the events that took place. It is more about the psychological go-through in such situations. Not what I expected to read at all.
The main character is Martin Reed, a middle-aged man working as accountant at a cleaning company. He still lives with his mother Evelyn Reed together and her character totally turns 180º degrees. Nortan Shaw is the employer of Martin and his colleagues Daryl Matheson, Unique Jones, Sandra Burke and Darla Gantry. At a sudden point Martin gets visited by two detectives named Bruce Benedict and Anther Anabahda. His lawyer is Max Jergens who is a kind of pro-deo (pro bono) lawyer. And he meets Gloria Koslowski a shop owner. But from the moment on he gets the visit of the two detectives, I did not like the book anymore.
That I do not like the book does not mean it is not a good book. The book (style) just not suited for me and probably I will not read it again.
It is three weeks prior to the Christmas holiday and now and then you hear already some Christmas music in stores. This morning I have read an announcement of Netflix releases its Christmas list for the holiday. And Netflix has changed the streaming game by making some films and series available for offline view in their app. So no worry, maybe your choice of film or series is available offline. But why not starting now with a nice film to feel already festive for the holiday? Hereby a big Christmas film and series list – related through its coldness. And some films I will review in the upcoming weeks. Which film(s) will watch this month?
The Christmas List
To be released:
series Doctor Who – Christmas special (24th)
series Call the Midwife – Christmas special (25th)
The wintertime is set last month and this month is as usual…the most busiest time of the year, the ‘inbetween’ of the first university semester of this year.
Next month will be The most wonderful time of the year because of the Christmas holiday and all the family and friends festivities.
This month november I am, and have been, so busy with lots of activities such as working on a project, making big assignments for study and extra curricular stuff such as working for Dresscode and celebrating already my birthday this weekend (my birthday is officially tomorrow).
All this stuff and events gives some nice inspiration for lots of blog posts.
I have to be selective – for now – as well because I have so many things to blog about.
My week of blog posts has a structure that looks like this:
Monday = Book review day – or related
Tuesday = Category day (see list of categories in the menu)
Wednesday = Series review day – or related
Thursday = Category day
Friday = Film review day – or related
Saturday = YouTube video / Pinterest / Recipe (can also be on a category day)
Sunday = Sunday’s Quote
Do you have a preference of a subject where I should blog about?
I hope you are looking forward too to my blog posts and it will be a surprise what is coming up.
